Calendula officinalis is an annual herb bearing an edible orange or yellow daisy-like flower. Naturalized throughout most of the world, calendula flower is a cheerful ornamental plant employed by many herbalists for its beneficial properties. Calendula flowers can be infused in oils and incorporated into lotions, creams, and balms. They brighten herbal tea blends and make a tasty calendula tea infusion.

Great moisturizer for dry skin and for severely chapped or split skin; soothe the area of sprained muscles or bruises and reduce the pain; anti-inflammatory action helps lessen swelling from injury; improves appearance of skin; excellent for baby’s tender tushie!

In cooking, calendula is a popular tea ingredient. The herb also lends subtle flavor and color to soups, broths and other liquids, as well as rice. In fact, calendula is often used as an alternative saffron, earning the herb the nickname “poor man’s saffron.”

Citrus-like with a peppery or bitter finish. Works well with peppermint, rose, cornflower, chamomile and lavender in cooking and in tea blends.
